Using capital survey data from East Asia affectionate Survey, this study takes marry population as an example to trial the following hypotheses. First, womens perception of gender roles is less traditionalistic than mens. Second, in response to the different patterns (paths) of social and economic change, people in Taiwan hold more egalitarian in gender role att itudes than those in China. Finally, the fac! tors explaining the variation of gender role attitudes crosswise gender and societies would be different. Controlling for separate socio-economic and demographic factors, the forcefulness of employment life on gender role attitudes would be more significant for women than for men and more crucial for Taiwan than for China.
